Why I joined RISHI

Coming into USC, I was eager to reconcile my complex cultural identity with my mission to drive progressive change. As I witnessed firsthand the stories behind numbers defining adolescents facing mental illnesses in Karpardahdih, Jharkhand, part of me was screaming that I wasn’t doing enough to give back. After facing many challenges to provide resources to these communities in high school, I sought out Project RISHI at USC to introduce me to human-centered design thinking as a pathway to drive targeted recommendations for under-resourced communities. Caught on both sides of the Desi-American hyphen, I hoped that my time in Project RISHI would allow me further my passion for social impact while building my appreciation for my identity and my parents' home country of India.
